Can any of our parents annul our marriage?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi, I just married my husband without anybody knowig it. We are both 20. The problem is that I am now concerned that at our marriage we had no witnesses rather then the judge. Does that mean that our parents can ask for an annulment? I forgot to ask you that we married under the laws of Pennsylvania.

Thank you very much.

No-one can petition for annulment of a marriage between a man and woman of legal age and competency except the couple themselves, or at least one of them. You didn't say whether you are Catholic. If you are, it doesn't make any difference in this case whether you had witnesses or not, since you cannot be validly married by a judge, with or without witnesses. If you intend to keep living with this man you need to marry him - in the Church.

By definition a marriage is public. It is not possible to marry someone "without anybody knowing it".
