anyone take on tac 20 other than thy? : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

I understand the idea of the OEM servicing their proprietary equipment but I was wondering if any other company has taken on the task.

How is it working out?

Any problems getting information after the customer was told all would be available?

Stay away from the TAC-20. If you look up the definition of TAC-20 you'll find "proprietary" listed.

Norm, Our Schindler office has taken Thyssen Tac 20's and 50's, new Kone escalators and machine roomless, Montgomery Miprom 21's and Otis 211's and 411's. So far so good, but Schindler has spent alot of time money effort on being able to do so. Were able to pull info on alot of manufacturers equipment on our PDA's onsite and talk to experts at the same time. I guess it depends on the company and if your willing to spend the dime.

We have several under contract from customers who just wanted to get rid of their current company. We took them on an oil and grease contract and the customer understood that if a major problem was to come up, they may have to call the manufacturer or the rep in our area.

Having said that, we've had two of them on service for a year and have had no callbacks that were not door related.

I'm curious what the customers were told would be available?

George did I hear you correctly saying that schindler could talk to and trouble shoot TAC20s? Just courious !

Schindler took a TAC20 away from us at a local hospital only because we didn't offer OT callbacks in the contract we submitted after the free service ran out, the elevator is located in intensive care unit of all places. It's been a real money maker for us because Schindler can't keep it running, and it's all simple stuff, I know in the last year Schindler has paid us more to get it running than they will take in from the Service Contract for the next 5 years.

So, does Schindler have the ability to talk to the TAC20 ? I think not.

We interviewed a Schindler Regional Operations Manager a few months ago who told us when pressed, "we'll take 'em on service and hope they don't break, if they do we call ThyssenKrupp to come out and fix them."

Will, Not everyone is as good as you. I guess I shouldn't mention the guy's from Thyssen who can't get any info on 330A's and beg me for a hand. Or the ones that have been lucky enough to have salesman tell a Miconic R4 or R5 TX customer that you can maintain them and that you have totally reverse engineered it at NTS and that you can keep them running better then Schindler, sign here 5yr contract, ut oh 3d repeat call second week into the contract. Ummmm you equipment is antiquated, or it was a Schindler experiment so ummm we reccomend a mod. C'mon man thats a DOVER trick, we can't fix your as well as you and you can't do ours as well as us, but it can be done. So stop trying to make it out like Thyssen is gods gift to the elevator world. Thats like me saying Schindlers equipment is more reliable then your's it's all crap. We do what we do as IUEC members and we do it well and were only as good as the info the companies provide. if u have the computer on site with the thyssen software anyone can handle it with the tac book. its just a plc like all of them.
