SAMERES REAWAKENING, CHAPTER 4

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

Sameres awoke, the afternoon sun indicated he had layn out under the shade tree, by the crackling, gentle flow of the stream, for a few hours. His Prayer book still held in his hand, he stood up, his back aching for a moment, causing him to grab it with his left hnd hwile balancing with the right by aid of his cane.

He leaned against a tree, and held his cane while he shook the last of his sleep from his head. He looked around at the abundance of life springing up before him, smiled, and was contented to make his way back to his house…

Ensign Elmoon was typing at her monitor…Time was one thing not at a premium, and she knew it.

She had collected a small staff, all ensigns or lesser, the Captain would not give her authority to command greater ranks, so it was up to her small team to do what they could.

Equipment was also at a halter…only small amounts of the ships reserves had been allotted her, the rest of the Crew where to do standard maintenance, and a few alternative science sweeps, all of which gained a higher Priority than Elmoon’s expedition.

Then, her Com badge Chirped… “Captain Dagget to Ensign Elmoon, I am on my way down, you had better have something important to show me.” Came the booming voice of the large Human over the COM channel. Elmoon tapped her Badge.

“Sir, I only need about half an hour to compile the Data and…” she was cut off by Captain Dagget’s voice. “I am on my way down now, you have as much time as it takes me to get to Science Lab B from the Bridge. Out”. With that the COM Channel went dead.

Elmoon looked down, and uttered “Oh Great” under her breath, and worked Feverishly to compile the Data to a presentation.

Finally, Captain Dagget arrived…the door swooshed open, and in he swayed, eyeing the Young Alien Ensign, her blue Scales and beak masking the figure of a woman… minus the Mammary Glands that she didn’t need.

The door closed behind the Captain as he entered. “Computer, Private, do not disturb this room while I am in briefing.” He said, and the Computer chimed “Acknowledged” in the old, familiar voice that others knew as the voice of the federation computer banks. With that, the Door slightly Hissed sealed.

“What do you have to show me?” asked the Captain as he approached the young Ensign.

“W-Well Sir, I…I have this…” She pulled out a small Pad, an then motioned to the Monitor.” We have Discovered an Unusual energy Reading in the Quantum Matrix of subspace, that m-may be harness able if we had the right sensors, but sir, I need more equipment and personnel to help with the research…”

She was cut off… her time was running out as well, it had been 6 hours, and she had only 6 more to go.

Fatigue was showing in her face, and she needed some rest, but couldn’t afford it under her current work schedule, and under her current restrictions she needed to put all her effort into the mission at hand, to discover the ambient energy readings secret, and the reason they seemed to restore the space in this area.

It was an incredible find, Elmoon knew it was, if only the Captain would give her the means to fully research it, the Federation may have a way to halt the damage Warp Drive does to space, or repair damaged sectors… or, alternatively, this may provide a new energy source, maybe safer than Matter/Antimatter…

Or, it could shed new light on space storms, which seemingly defied explanation, but where well known from the 22nd century onward… in the very least it would show some aspect of space thus it was important research…

She was again in her Blue shirt, partially unzipped, and her vest had been removed… this due to the exhaustion, and frustration.

That was when the Captain made his move, a low and underhanded move at that… “Captain I need more supplies, more time, and more people to help.” Said Elmoon, exasperated by his lack of support, indeed, by his seeming removal of everything she needed and thus making her work in near impossible conditions.

“You know, I am not convinced of the need, maybe you can persuade me.” He said, in a low, even voice, with wile and guile present as he eyed the officer…a sinister half smile adorning his squared off face.

“Sir, I would like to discuss…” She noticed he was drawing nearer to her, his hands now rubbed over her arms… as he eyed her shirt, which was unzipped at the top…she pulled back and re-zipped her shirt. He approached again, and backed her against the wall. “You know, you have been an ensign for four years now, , I have the power to promote you, and I can give you all the supplies, time, and people you need… if I can be persuaded.” Elmoon was taken aback, and she felt the metal wall behind her as the large Human loomed over her…

“Captain, I don’t think we should be doing this, and in fact I I I …I think I am entitled to ask you to please back off, your actions are making m-me Uncomfortable.”

The Captain didn’t back off, he pushed in a little closer.” Come on, all I am asking is for a little friendly persuasion. A demonstration of how important this is to you.” He said, slyly, coyly, with lust in his eyes… Elmoon was really nervous now… and didn’t like the sound of “Friendly Persuasion.”

“Captain I insist you back off…” She said, while he ran his hands over her arms.

“Come on, you know, I can give you anything you like, even a promotion, its just how things work. If you want to get ahead I suggest you learn how to play the Game.” Said the Captain, grinning. Elmoon, taken completely aback, pushed at the large man, managing to break free of his enforced embrace and rushing across the lab. She saw him turn and stare at her, a grin on his face as he laughed. “What’s the matter? Too much man for you Honey?” He said…” Or are you just the shy type. Or maybe playing Hard to Get, well no matter.” He said. He walked toward the door, and said “ Computer, end Privacy mode, open doors. “ With that, the doors opened up, and he walked toward them… eyeing the ensign again, he said then “ You need to learn how the game is played, Latria, that way you get what you want. Just to show you a sample, I am giving you another day. We need to rebuffed the warp coils anyway so may as well do that here… but if you ask me nicely, say, in my quarters, well I am sure I can see fit to grant a little more time.”

Elmoon shivered in the corner, defensive… anxious to be rid of him. “S-Sir, I don’t think Starfleet would approve of this sort of conduct.” She stammered.

“Starfleet won’t have to know. In case you hadn’t noticed, we are in the middle of No where, out on the frontier.” He spoke with ease. “Besides, I have friends in high places.”

He encroached past the work table then, toward her.” I suggest you learn how to give a little to get a little. Believe me, those that do get what they want, and so does everyone else, and we are all Happy. Those that don’t, well, they tend to find themselves in a hard place.” He said… grinning still, he walked out of the lab, turning around, and said, “ I am available any time you want to talk about future prospects, or carreer advancement. Door, Close,” He said, with that, the door closed behind him, and Latria was alone in the lab, shaking after her encounter…

She turned on the Monitor, and watched the Hall, to make sure he was away… then she hurried off, and ran to her Quarters. There, she ordered “ Computer, seal doors.” “Acknowledged” Chimed the Computer voice, then, she curled up in bed in a ball, and shook a little….. Nervous, frightened…

This was not the way it was suppose to be, and in her seven years of Starfleet, it never had been this way before…

She had transferred onto the Elonna only 10 months ago, but already she knew that this was not what she had signed on for.

As soon as she arrived, she felt the crew Morale was low, she had thought it maybe a bad streak, but it wasn’t.

She had to suffer ever increasing insults, and jeers, and watched as the most cruel where promoted, and how favours where exchanged on the ship in exchange for what others wanted.

It was like serving on a ship where anyone would tell on you, or sell their soul, for what they wanted, and those that didn’t managed to become the victims…

Captain Dagget was always a Bully, but until recently, he had ignored her, and for the first 8 months she had bled into the cracks. No friends on this ship, but no real enemies, and aside form slaving over extra duty shifts whenever anyone could pin her with one, she had escaped most of the torment that this ship, whose crew always seemed to snap at each other, had experienced.

That is, until the Captain wanted some new Victim to bring down… and then he selected this lone science officer form mid-deck…but by and large, other than a few barking orders, even he had left her alone…

But now, now she seemed to have made herself a target, she stood up to him on the bridge and had drawn attention to herself. She didn’t deserve this, she knew she didn’t. Still she felt guilty, for reasons she couldn’t quiet place, and a bit dirty…

She had requested reassignment…but no word form Command yet… she was alone, and frightened…

This was not what the fleet was about, and she cried till she fell asleep, but not before ordering the computer to tell her when 5 hours had past… she could function on five hours sleep. For now anyway, and it seemed she had to.

The southern cross sped toward Gidea at warp factor 3... 6 hours from Destination…

within, three officers finished up their work.

Vipan, Sirano, and Casclaw stood, and closed the panel that concealed the circits of the security grid.

"Well, now for a final test." Said Vipan. Casclaw stood up, and conigured the grid. " Now it won't recognise me, or the transporter beam form this deck. I will beam to deck 7." He caid coldly. Sirano looked over, " I will accompany you to transporter room three, Vipan can stay here and make sure the system is working. " She said, and Casclaw responcded with " Alright, lets go." The two made their way out the door. Down the al in silnence, to a small transporter pad, whose energy signature was modified, and had been placed on a different energy source than the ships main power grid, just for this test. Sirano took tot he controle panal, as Casclaw stood on the transporter beam platform. " Energise." He said, she worked the buttons, and he dematerialised, only to appear on deck seven, section 41, which had been cleared for this experements ourposes. The alarm went off. " Intruder alert, unauthorised transporter beam on deck 7."

The system worked, and Vipan pushed a few buttons, gettign the system to recognise Casclaw, sutting off the alarm, and recognising the transporter signature. Sirano chimed in over the two com badges. " Well, now just to let you know, I htink we did a good job. Now will oen of you guys assist me in reconfiguring the transporter?"

Casclaw tapped his badge, saying " Vipan can do it, he is the engeneir. I need to go rest." He said.

" Good, you'll need to be rested for when we fet to Gidea." Withthat he glared, and walked tot he lift, within he remained silent... till it reached his deck, he walked out, and went into hsi quarters... removing his combadge, he went to his bed, and lay down... meditating... contemplating... dreaming...but not sleeping.

"Sirano, what are you planning for Gidea." he said. Fnshig with " I have a bad feeling about this trip."
