Have to get married in a hurry but still want wedding in october

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

My fiance and I are currently taking pre-cana classes with our priest. We live in Indiana and he currently got a job offer in South Carolina that he really can't refuse. Our problem is, we don't want to live apart for the 8 months before our wedding(October, 8 2005). So i guess my question is what are our options? If we live together without being married could we still have a Catholic wedding? Can we just get married and still have wedding ceremony? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Angie, my fiance and I were in the same situation. We brought foward our wedding date so that we were only apart for 6 weeks instead of 8 months. The Church had no problem with this. Technically you "can" still have a Catholic wedding if you cohabitate beforehand, but there is no need to, and you would be creating a grave threat to the future success of your marriage if you did so.

You can be married in the Catholic Church if you're living together? I thought the Church required a period of separation first - like 6 months or so if I recall.
