Is it because they never grew out of having imaginary friends?

people don't "hunt down chrfistaisn"[sic] as you put it so well. You seem so insecure that you had to send a pathetic response so fast you couldn't spell anything correctly.

Zarove, they simply hate Christ, and therefore hate any who love Him.

People is a large audience. The answer can be as simple or complex as the believer or un-believer wants to make it. Simply, it can be taught, a tradition, nastalgia, or even because it's the truth, it's real. It can be as complicated as quantum physics where at the molecular level water will align in specific and paterns when just words are written on the bottle. Such cases have been proven for words like "Hate" and "Love" as noted in the movie "What the Bleep the movie". I could from astronomy where scientists have found places where light eminates where there are no stars. It could be history, geology, geography, physics etc.... Simple theories as understood by western society like logic, mathematics, etc show there must be something in existence otherwise one cannot disprove it. Unbelievers are more dependent on God's existence in order to disregard Him than a believer is to have faith. Even looking at string theory, though flawed, has lead some physicists towards belief. For some, Christianity is an intellectual depravity whereby the faithful are devoid of creative thought. But then again that's not the point, is it? Amongst all the evidence there is something unique that a heart turned toward christ has. Explaining it is somewhat pointless because it is a dynamic conversation that's played out in the mind, heart, behavior, speech, and even physical appearence. It's ever changing, but also always the same. Like growing old with a friend or another oxymoron like grasping the still point of a turning world.

For me beyond all the evidence, poetry, literature, music, science, history, art, etc.... It's like this: I believe because for once I'm in tune, and my entire soul vibrates in harmony.

If you want a more conclusive and definitive answer ask God. I mean if He's not real, what's the risk?
